First-Year Undergraduate

University of Miami has a national reputation as the premier public university in Ohio. Miami university take cares that students receive the benefits of a major public university, at reasonable cost, get many fields of study, and lots of student activities along with the personal attention and academic reputation typically found only at private schools.

Find out about academic standards, high school preparation for meeting admission criteria, and variables considered in the application review process. Miami requires official scores on the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I: Reasoning). The only exception is if you are at least 22 years of age and have been out of high school five or more years. Miami also accepts ACT and SAT I scores from tests taken under non-standard conditions

Miami University being an selective public institution has some of it admission criteria . They have review process is comprehensive, they strive to see the interrelationships between them and to establish the context of a student's achievements and demonstrated potential up to this point in his or her life. The academic and contextual variables considered in our application review process include the following (listed in alphabetical order):

  • Class rank (6-semester cumulative)
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Obstacles overcome
  • Employment status during high school
  • Potential contributions to diversity (breadth of experience, geography, ideology, lifestyle, race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, world view)
  • First-generation college student status
  • Grade point average (cumulative gpa, grade trends)
  • Legacy status (family members that have graduated from Miami)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation
  • Life experiences
  • Extra- and co-curricular involvement
  • Socioeconomic status
  • Quality of high school (% of graduates going to 4-year colleges)
  • Significant extenuating circumstances
  • Strength of high school curriculum (depth in each subject area, honors or accelerated courses, AP/IB courses)
  • Special abilities, talents, and achievements
  • Standardized test scores
  • Strong, ongoing commitment to social service and/or volunteer activities
  • Writing ability

If you are looking for an admission in high school then student must have earned a diploma from a state-chartered high school OR have a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Alternatively educated students are welcome to apply.

If you do not meet these specific curriculum standards, you will not be denied admission to Miami if you are otherwise qualified. Instead, you will be required to complete these standards once you enroll.

  • English: 4 units
  • Natural science: 3 units, including both a physical and biological science
  • Math: 3 units, at least to the Algebra II level
  • Foreign language: 2 units, both in the same language
  • Social science: 3 units, including one unit of history
  • Fine arts: 1 unit, including art, drama, dance, or music, either appreciation or performance.
